However you aren't there yet, you now realize that you have to leave the safety of your home and venture outside and that is a whole new chapter of potty training. It is tempting to just put them in pull ups, but that is not really the message you want to be sending to your child.
By now your child is probably going for an hour or two between using the potty, so you may think you can dash there and back quickly. Well you will more than likely be wrong, you know what you are like when you get excited or nervous. Well it is worse for a child as they cannot hold on to it for as long as you can. Because of that you may find that your child needs use the potty more times when they are out than when they are in.
So what do you do to make it easier potty training in public places
1. Talk to your child explain what will happen while you are out and how it will be different from at home.
2. Try and get them to use their potty before you leave home.
3. Make sure you plan where you are going and you know where the toilets are located.
4. While you are out watch your child for the tell tale signs, most children will show signs of needing the toilet, you should by now know your own child's signs. At the first sight of theses signs head for the toilets.
5. If you do not want to carry a potty around with you try sitting them on the toilet backwards, that way they will have the wall inn front of them and will not feel as if they are going to fall off.
6. Always take spare clothing, some plastic bags to put the wet stuff in, some baby wipes and paper towels so you are prepared for accidents.
7. If your child has an accident in a shop or restaurant – tell the staff straight away believe me they would rather be told by you than finding out themselves. Take your child to the toilet to clean them up.
8. if you are at a friends house and your child as an accident them you must clean it up straight away, if you carry everything with you you can clean up straight away without having to ask for anything.
9. You may well have a number of false alarms while you are out, your child may just like the attention they get when they say that magic trigger word to you. So be prepared don't forget your sense of humour. Remember if accidents do happen they are just that and you should not punish your child.
